Poolstar Chlorine Pool Care – Quick Read Guide

3 Easy Steps
1. Test
Test your pool water weekly, and up to daily in peak season.
Use the correct test strip to measure pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, and free chlorine.
Consistent testing is a great way to prevent minor issues from becoming major problems.
2. Balance
Before you add chlorine bring each reading into the Healthy Pool Range below:
- Total Alkalinity 80–120 ppm. Raise with Poolstar Pool TA Increaser, lower with Poolstar Pool pH Decreaser
- pH 7.2–7.8. Raise with Poolstar pH Plus, lower with Poolstar pH Minus
- Calcium Hardness 150–350 ppm. Raise with Poolstar Calcium Chloride, to lower, partially drain and top-up with fresh water
Balanced water feels comfortable, protects the pool surface and ensures that chlorine works efficiently.
3. Sanitise
- Keep free chlorine at 2-5ppm. After dosing, stabiliser should be 40–100ppm.
- Choose your preferred Poolstar chlorine.
Chlorine neutralises bacteria and organic contaminants, keeping the pool safe to swim in.

Pro Tips
- Shock-dose - if chlorine residuals drop below desired levels, if your pool becomes cloudy or algae starts to appear it's time for a shock dose of chlorine. Use 2–3 times your normal chlorine amount.
- Store chemicals cool, dry and sealed. Always add chemical to water, never water to chemical, and never mix products.
For skin or eye contact, rinse with plenty of water and call the NZ Poisons Centre on 0800 764 766.
