Poolstar Salt Water Pool Care – Quick Read Guide

Key Guidelines

1. Once a Month

Monthly is the minimum recommended frequency to ensure the salt level stays within the optimal range.

2. After Major Water Loss/Addition:

You should test immediately after:

  • Heavy Rainfall or significant backwashing: This can dilute the salt concentration.
  • Topping off the pool with a large amount of fresh water: This can also cause dilution.
  • Adding salt: Test 24 hours after adding salt to ensure it has fully dissolved and circulated.

3. Before Winterizing/Opening

Testing before closing the pool and again before starting up the salt cell in the spring is highly recommended.

Maintaining the correct salinity is crucial because if the salt level is too low, the chlorine generator won't produce enough chlorine, leading to water quality issues. If it's too high, it can damage the cell and other equipment.

Quick FAQs

At least weekly; daily during peak use or heavy rain because sunlight, debris and swimmers change water balance fast.

Balanced water reduces scaling, corrosion and eye irritation, and saves chemicals.

Shock-dose with Poolstar Liquid Chlorine or Hichlor at 2–3 × normal dose.

Verify salinity: add pool salt or lengthen chlorinator run-time until free chlorine stabilises.
