Poolstar Spa Pool Care – Quick Read Guide

3 Easy Steps
1. Test
Weekly, or after heavy use, dip a PoolStar Spa Test Strip into your spa pool. Take note of the pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness & sanitiser (chlorine) results.
Consistent testing is a great way to prevent minor issues from becoming major problems.
2. Balance
Get each reading into the “Healthy Spa Range” below before you add sanitiser.
- Total Alkalinity should be 80 – 120 ppm. Raise with PoolStar Spa Alkalinity Increaser, lower with PoolStar Spa pH Decrease.
- pH should be 7.2 – 7.8. Raise with Spa pH Increase, lower with Spa pH Decrease.
- Calcium Hardness should be 150 – 250 ppm. Raise with PoolStar Calcium Hardness; to lower, drain & top-up with fresh water.
Balanced water feels better, protects spa surfaces and ensures maximum efficiency for sanitisers.
3. Sanitise
Maintain free chlorine or bromine at 2 – 5 ppm.
- Recommended: PoolStar Spa Bromine Tabs (steady release, heat-stable).
- Alternative: PoolStar Spa Chlorine Granules.
Sanitising keeps the water safe by eliminating bacteria and organic waste.

Pro Tips
- Shock-dose: Use 2–3 times your normal chlorine amount whenever water looks dull. Alternatively use PoolStar Pool and Spa Shock. Replace spa water every 6–8 weeks for a fresh start.
- Keep chemicals cool, dry and sealed. Always add product to water - never water to product, and never mix different chemicals together.
- If chemicals contact skin or eyes, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical advice. National Poisons Centre NZ: 0800 764 766.
Quick FAQs
At least once a week - and always after heavy use because small water volumes change fast.
Balanced water prevents corrosion, scaling and cloudy water, and lets sanitiser work more efficiently.
Poolstar Spa Bromine tablets release steadily at higher temps, reducing daily maintenance. Chlorine granules also work but need more frequent checks.
